There is no contradiction between the fatwas. The yellowish and brownish discharge connected to blood is considered menstruation if it occurs within the period of possible menstruation. However, if a woman sees purity (tahara) and then sees yellowish or brownish discharge, it is not considered menstruation, based on the of Umm Atiyyah: "We did not consider the yellowish and brownish discharge after purity (tahara) to be anything." What is seen after the cessation of blood and the sight of purity (tahara) and is not considered menstruation, and the woman only needs to perform (cleansing) and wudu (ablution) for prayer.
