The answer

It is not permissible for an employee to accept a gift that has no reason other than his being an employee, just as it is not permissible for the giver to offer it. This is based on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "What is wrong with a worker whom we send, then he comes and says: 'This is for you, and this was given to me as a gift'? Why did he not sit in the house of his mother or father and see if anything would be given to him as a gift or not?" However, if there is another reason for the gift, such as kinship, then there is no harm in it. Scholars have stipulated that gifts to workers are considered embezzlement and treachery, and they are a form of bribery forbidden by Islamic law.
