Is it permissible for a woman suffering from asthma, whose husband is reckless and does not take precautionary measures against the coronavirus, to refrain from intimacy with him and wear a mask at home to avoid infection?
The fundamental principle is that the wife is obligated to respond to her husband if he calls her to intimacy, with severe warnings against refusing to do so. Refusal is permissible only if there is a genuine excuse, such as the husband being in a state that necessitates refusal for fear of him harming others. However, the mere recklessness of the husband and his failure to take preventative measures do not permit the wife to refuse his enjoyment of her. The husband is advised to be resolute and to take the necessary precautions to prevent illness, for this is religiously required and part of perfect reliance on Allah. There is no blame upon the wife for taking precautionary measures, such as wearing a mask, and precautionary matters should be handled with moderation to avoid obsessive doubt.
