The story of Ka'b ibn Zuhayr's conversion to Islam can be summarized as follows: His brother, Bujayr, advised him to come to the Prophet (peace be upon him) after his blood had been declared forfeit. Ka'b, however, satirized the Prophet. When his satire reached the Prophet (peace be upon him), Bujayr wrote to Ka'b saying that the remaining satirist poets had fled, and that the Prophet does not kill those who come to him repentant and as Muslims. So, Ka'b returned to Medina, secretly sought protection from the Prophet (peace be upon him), and then revealed himself. When one of the Ansar intended to kill him, the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade it. At that point, Ka'b recited his famous poem "Bānat Su'ād," praising the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the Muhajirun. Several sources have confirmed the authenticity of this story and the poem.
