What is the ruling on growing a beard and dealing with strong parental opposition and threats to expel a son from university, especially when the father abstains from maintaining kinship ties? Is it permissible to adopt the view of those who say it is permissible to trim the beard to less than a fistful?

"Trimming the beard to less than a fistful is not considered haram (forbidden) by many scholars. However, if lightening it to near-shaving becomes necessary due to the parents' anger and threats, then it is permissible. Continue to please and honor your parents and supplicate for them. Maintain kinship ties with those you know or can reach. Be patient in obeying Allah, in abstaining from His prohibitions, and in enduring any harm from your parents. Treat them kindly, for Allah does not waste the reward of those who do good."
