Is it forbidden to use a free operating system that was downloaded using a non-free, pirated operating system, and does that affect the reward for listening to the Qur'an on it?

Contemporary scholars have differed on the issue of copying computer programs without the permission of their owners. A group of them held that it is impermissible, whether the owner of the program is a Muslim or a non-Muslim who is not at war [with Muslims], because the right of a non-Muslim who is not at war is as respected as the right of a Muslim. It is more prudent for a Muslim not to buy, use, or copy pirated discs to avoid disagreement. However, using the system you downloaded through the non-free system is permissible, God willing, because it is free.
