What is the difference between an absolute decree and a conditional decree, and what are examples of each?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Absolute decree is what preceded in the knowledge of Allah Almighty and does not change or delay. Allah decreed it fifty thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth. As for conditional decree, it pertains to the knowledge of the entrusted angel, and in it occurs alteration, change, affirmation, and effacement, such as an increase in lifespan due to maintaining kinship ties. It would have preceded in Allah’s knowledge that the servant would do so, and thus his total lifespan is recorded for him from eternity.
