What is the ruling on a man sleeping alone in his house, and what is the evidence for the prohibition of that, and how should he sleep if he finds no one and does not wish to burden others?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade a man from spending the night alone in his house, and the same applies to a woman. The least that can be said about this is that it is disliked (makrooh). The Hanbali jurists explicitly stated that it is disliked. Therefore, one should seek someone to stay with or near them. However, there is no sin upon him if he spends the night alone.
