What is incumbent upon me after using non-genuine Windows to flash my phone, knowing that the computer I used for flashing was also running a non-genuine version of Windows, and I was not the one who installed it? And is formatting the phone alone sufficient to atone for this action?

There are two opinions regarding the issue of downloading unofficial software:

1. The majority of scholars: It is not permissible to copy and use pirated, copyrighted software except with the permission of its owners.

2. Another opinion: There is no harm in copying it for personal use, without earning money from it.

Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said: "What I believe is that if a person copies it for himself only, there is no harm. But if he copies it for trade, then this is not permissible, because it harms others."

Accordingly, there is no harm in using the computer for personal, non-commercial use.
