What is the ruling on eating rats?

Eating mice is forbidden according to the Hanafis, Shafi'is, and Hanbalis, and this is the well-known position among the Malikis. Its consumption has been prohibited, and there is an order to kill it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Five animals are all evil and should be killed even within the Haram (sacred precincts): the crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse, and the rabid dog." Al-Dusuqi mentioned that the well-known position among the Malikis is prohibition, which is the correct view and consistent with the majority of scholars.
