What are "Hizb al-Bahr" and "Hizb al-Nasr," and do they alleviate distress and fulfill wishes?

"Hizb al-Bahr" and "Hizb al-Nasr" are two formulas of supplication innovated by the Shadhili Sufi order. They are innovated supplications for which there is no evidence from the Prophet's Sunnah, and they contain formulas for which supplication is not customarily performed in Islamic law. Therefore, a Muslim should suffice with the prophetic supplications and avoid innovated supplications, because acts of worship are based on divine command and adherence [to tradition], not innovation. Innovated supplications may also contain polytheism (shirk).
