How can one overcome the problem of extreme shyness and lack of self-confidence, develop one's personality, and improve the relationship with one's mother?
Shyness is not entirely blameworthy. Some of it is praiseworthy, especially for girls, while some is blameworthy, such as neglecting duties. This blameworthy type should be overcome. One can benefit from the advice of mental health professionals to strengthen personality and self-confidence. It is important to distinguish between blameworthy shyness and praiseworthy modesty (hayaa') in Islamic law; modesty is different from shyness. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was "more modest than a virgin," and he said: "Modesty is a branch of faith," and "Modesty is all good."
It is not permissible for a girl to establish relationships with young males. Relationships should be limited to females of her own gender. Allah has forbidden unrestricted gazing, handshakes, unregulated mixing, and speaking in a soft, alluring manner. He has also obligated the and staying at home (for women) to protect honor.
It is advised to draw closer to one's mother, be dutiful to her, obey her, be humble towards her, serve her, and give her gifts that bring her joy. It is also recommended to make abundant supplications to strengthen faith and personality, overcome shyness, be dutiful to parents, achieve uprightness, and seize times when supplications are answered.
