What is the expiation for swearing by Allah not to take a certain type of mobile phone, if it is later gifted to me?
The expiation for swearing by Allah is to feed ten needy persons, or to clothe them, or to free a slave. If one cannot find any of these, then it is to fast for three days, as stated in His Almighty's saying: ﴿Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for what you intended in your oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families, or clothing them, or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannot find [each of these], then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guard your oaths.﴾ [Al-Ma'idah: 89].
