Is zakat due on the agricultural crop as a whole, or on each individual's share after the crop is divided?

If the crop belongs solely to the father, then zakat is paid on it as the property of a single individual. However, if it is shared between him and his children, then zakat is due on the share of each individual separately. If a share reaches the nisab (minimum threshold), zakat is paid on it; otherwise, it is not. This is the view of most scholars, who hold that partnership (al-khultah) is not considered in the case of crops.

As for the view that considers partnership in crops (which is the sound opinion in the Shafi'i madhhab), zakat becomes obligatory on the harvest if it reaches the nisab, even if the share of each individual does not reach the nisab, provided that the guardian (of the crop) and the drying place are not distinct.
