Supporting Islam is a religious obligation that can only be fulfilled through collective action. Therefore, joining active Sunni groups is required and important, while keeping several matters in mind: It is not obligatory to belong to a specific group; rather, a Muslim chooses the one closest to the truth. The group must not advocate fanaticism, and loyalty and disavowal should not be tied to it, but rather to Islam. These groups contain both right and wrong; one should cooperate in good and offer advice regarding errors, and distinguish right from wrong by referring to the Qur'an and Sunnah according to the understanding of the righteous predecessors.
