Is it permissible for a man to marry his divorced wife after he has divorced her three times, knowing that she has not married anyone else?

If a man divorces his wife with three pronouncements, she is not lawful for him until she marries another man and he consummates the marriage with her, due to the Almighty's saying: "And if he has divorced her [for the third time], then she is not lawful to him afterward until she marries another husband." There is no disagreement among scholars on this matter.
