From where does one enter into a state of Ihram for Umrah and Hajj when coming from New Zealand, passing through Egypt, then Jeddah and Madinah, given that Ihram garments are not available until Jeddah?

Scholars have differed on the ruling concerning someone who passes by more than one miqat. Is he obligated to enter into ihram from the first miqat he passes or aligns with, or is it permissible for him to delay the ihram until the last miqat he passes?

The First View (Majority): He must enter into ihram from the first miqat he passes. Whoever oversteps the miqat without entering into ihram must offer a sacrifice (dam).

The Second View (Hanafis, Malikis, and Others): Entering into ihram is not obligatory from the first miqat. It is permissible to delay ihram until the last miqat one passes without incurring the need for a sacrifice, though entering ihram from the first miqat is preferred.

Based on this, a pilgrim performing Hajj or Umrah can enter into ihram before the plane passes over one of the miqats (according to the majority view), or delay ihram until the miqat of Madinah (Dhul Hulaifah/Abyar Ali) if his destination is Madinah first (according to the Hanafi and Maliki view).

As for Hajj: - Hajj al-Ifrad: One enters into ihram from the same place as the ihram for Umrah. - Hajj al-Tamattu': One performs Umrah first and then exits ihram, and then enters into ihram for Hajj from Makkah on the Day of Tarwiyah (the 8th of Dhul Hijjah).

Ihram is the intention to enter into the ritual, and the ihram attire consists of an unstitched izar (lower garment) and rida' (upper garment). This attire is available in many places and is not restricted to Jeddah.
