Is it permissible to perform Hajj on behalf of a deceased person who had already performed Hajj before death?
Scholars have differed concerning the donation of rewards for good deeds to the deceased, but they have agreed on the benefit the deceased receives from supplication (du'a), seeking forgiveness (istighfar), and charity (), and that the obligatory Hajj benefits the deceased. The evidence suggests that the deceased benefits from Hajj performed on their behalf, even if it is voluntary, based on the of Ibn Abbas regarding Hajj performed on behalf of Shubrumah, and the hadith of the Prophet, peace be upon him, to Amr ibn al-Aas that if his father had affirmed monotheism and he (Amr) had fasted and given charity on his behalf, that would have benefited him. Ibn al-Qayyim preferred the view that the deceased benefit from acts of devotion dedicated to them, which is the opinion of Imam Ahmad and many scholars. This view was also preferred by An-Nawawi, Al-Qurtubi, Ibn Abi al-Izz al-Hanafi, and Ibn Taymiyyah.
