Are devotional recitations such as Wird al-Taj, Wird Lakhi, and Wird Tanajiana considered innovations (bid‘ah)?
We have no knowledge of what these litanies contain. However, the best litanies are those whose wording has been authentically transmitted from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It is permissible for a person to invoke blessings upon his Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with a wording that has not been transmitted, as long as it does not include a legally prohibited element. The one performing dhikr (remembrance of Allah) is not permitted to specify a time, number, or manner for dhikr unless it is proven by sound evidence; otherwise, he falls into an additive innovation (bid'ah idafiyyah). All good lies in following what has come from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and no person introduces an innovation but that he abandons an equivalent amount of the Sunnah.
