The one who claimed that the Qur’an was “tales of the ancients” was Al-Walid ibn Al-Mughirah, and concerning him, Allah Almighty revealed His saying: “When Our verses are recited to him, he says, ‘Tales of the ancients.’” Others adopted this saying from him and began to repeat it, and for that reason, Allah attributed this saying to them in the verse: “And they said, ‘Tales of the ancients.’”
