Is the legal contract considered valid if the groom's father says: "We have come seeking and asking for the hand of your daughter, so-and-so, for my son, so-and-so," and the bride's father responds with approval, with the presence of witnesses, the presentation of the dowry, and the consent of the bride's family?

If the method of "we have come seeking your daughter's hand" is a recognized custom for establishing a marriage contract, then the contract is valid. However, if it was merely an engagement, then the contract must be renewed with a clear formula such as "I give you my daughter in marriage" and "I accept." Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah holds the view that a contract is concluded by anything, whether words or actions, that indicates its intended purpose, based on custom, and the principles of Islamic law support this view. Furthermore, your father's action on your behalf with your consent does not invalidate the contract.
