"An aqeeqah with a cow for seven people is considered sufficient by some scholars, such as the Shafi'is. Based on this, slaughtering a cow for the aforementioned family would be sufficient. The aqeeqah is a confirmed according to the majority of scholars. If the father does not perform the aqeeqah for his child until the child reaches puberty, the obligation of the aqeeqah for the father lapses. After reaching puberty, the child may perform the aqeeqah for themselves, but it is not obligatory upon them."
