Is "al-sahrah" (night-gathering/staying up late) forbidden?

Late-night gatherings are impermissible due to what they often include: musical instruments and music, intermingling of sexes, idle and indecent talk, and preoccupation from what Allah Almighty has enjoined. If they are free from these prohibitions, they are still disliked because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, disliked conversation after the 'Isha prayer, as it risks missing the night vigil and Fajr prayer. What is exempt from the dislike of conversation after 'Isha is that which is for educational purposes or for the benefit of Muslims.
