Which has a higher rank with Allah: the scholar of Sharia or the martyr?

The preference between scholars and martyrs is an unseen matter known only to Allah. However, the preference between knowledge and jihad differs according to the individual's situation and the time. Jihad is superior for one who is present when enemies attack, while seeking knowledge is superior for one who is weak in build during times of peace, so that he may become one of the scholars.
