Is it permissible to be named "Ata Allah"?

There is no objection to naming a newborn "Ata'ullah" (Gift of God) or "Hibbatullah" (Gift of God), though it is preferable to choose other names. Sheikh Bakr Abu Zayd mentioned that these compound names ("Awnullah" - Help of God, "Dayfullah" - Guest of God, "Ata'ullah" - Gift of God, and others) appeared after the Muslim community intermingled with non-Arabs, and were not known among Arabs and Muslims in the early days of Islam. He advised against using them initially, and for those who have been named with such, changing the name is appropriate. If the name remains and carries the meaning of: help from God, then there is no harm.
