How do you deduce from the noble verse: "Indeed, those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures" that all People of the Scripture are disbelievers, when the verse states: "those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture," which means that disbelief is specific to those among them who disbelieved, and not to all of them? So, what is your interpretation of that?

The imams have unanimously agreed on the disbelief of anyone who did not believe in the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, after his prophethood. The confusion in understanding the verse comes from the assumption that "min" (مِنْ) here denotes partiality, whereas the correct understanding is that it is for explaining the genus — that is, the genus of disbelievers who do not wish any good to be sent down to Muslims. Exegetes, such as Al-Jalalayn, Ibn Atiyyah, and Al-Tahrir wa Al-Tanwir, have clarified that "min" (مِنْ) in such verses is for explanation, not for partiality, and that it includes all types of disbelievers, from the People of the Book to the polytheists.
