Regarding the gift: If it is highly probable that the friend is truthful about not having an illicit relationship, or if no strong probability exists, then the default is that it is permissible to benefit from the gift, and there is no need to investigate the source of the money. However, if it is highly probable that the money comes from sodomy, then it is forbidden wealth that must be disposed of by giving it to the poor and for public welfare. It is not permissible to benefit from the furniture except in cases of extreme poverty. If the friend's money is mixed, partly permissible and partly forbidden, then accepting his gift is permissible as long as it is not from the forbidden portion of his money itself. The friend should be advised to abandon sodomy, and if he does not respond, then he should not be taken as a friend.
