Is the straightening of rows in congregational prayer obligatory, such that whoever abandons it is sinful?

Islam has given great importance to the straightening of rows, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded it and warned against its violation. Straightening the rows is obligatory, and the prayer of one who violates it and does not straighten the rows is valid. Straightening is achieved when no one advances ahead of another, such that shoulders and heels are aligned.

Among the perfections of straightening the rows are: standing close together, completing the first row then the next, keeping the rows close to each other, a person standing close to the Imam, preferring the right side of the row over its left if they are equal or close, and women standing alone behind men.
