What is the ruling on naming a newborn girl Ran?

If the name "Ran" is derived from the past tense verb "raana yareenu," then it should not be used as a name, because it means defilement and a veil. If it is a foreign name, then the ruling on naming with it depends on knowing its meaning: if it is good and does not contradict Islamic law, then it is permissible; if it is ugly or contradicts Islamic law, then it is not permissible; and if its meaning is unknown, then it is better to avoid it.
