What is the Islamic way to hold a wedding ceremony, and is holding religious mawlids an innovation (bid'ah)?

Chanting (anashid) at a wedding is permissible as long as it is not accompanied by musical instruments. Reading from the Prophet’s biography (Sirah) at a wedding is acceptable if it is for the purpose of benefiting, but believing that it is legally required for this occasion is an innovation (bid‘ah).
