Must I abandon ten years of study based on Fatwa No. 7764?

The fatwa (definition) does not intend to mandate abandoning the study or specialization of gynecology and obstetrics. Rather, it emphasizes the importance for doctors to feel Allah's constant watch, recognize the great responsibility and trust placed upon them, and highlights the rulings concerning a male doctor's examination of and seclusion with a woman. Specialization in medicine is a communal obligation (fard kifaya), and it may become an individual obligation (fard ayn) for a highly skilled person if no one else is available.
