What is the ruling on publishing an obituary in newspapers accompanied by Quranic verses?

It is permissible to announce a person's death, as long as it is not accompanied by practices of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah) such as mentioning virtues, great deeds, praise, and commendation that people know are not true of the deceased, and as long as the intention is not boastfulness or pride. Announcing a death may even be obligatory if its purpose is to summon those responsible for the deceased's rights, and it is recommended if it is hoped that people will seek forgiveness for him or pray over him, as was the practice of the Prophet, peace be upon him, when announcing the death of the Negus and the Battle of Mu'tah. As for writing some Quranic verses along with a permissible death announcement, there is no harm in that, provided they are preserved and honored; otherwise, they should be burned or destroyed.
