What is the ruling on the condition the questioner made upon himself to pay a sum of money and to mention Allah a specific number of times if he returns to sin after repentance? And is he obligated to fulfill it?
If what you mentioned was merely a promise, then according to the majority of scholars, it is not obligatory to fulfill it. However, if it was a form of commitment, like a vow (), then it is considered a vow of "lajaj" (obstinacy or anger). In summary, you must either fulfill what you vowed or offer an expiation for an oath (kaffarat ) for each vow, and you have the choice between the two. Regarding sins, you must offer sincere repentance ( nasuh) and draw closer to Allah through supererogatory acts (nawafil) and good deeds, for repentance erases sins, and "the one who repents from a sin is like one who committed no sin." Avoid disliked actions seeking Allah's pleasure.
