Is repentance from backbiting accepted without seeking absolution from the one backbited, such that it pertains solely to the right of Allah, while the right of the servant remains?

The statement that repentance from moral transgressions like backbiting necessitates seeking the forgiveness of the aggrieved person is the view of the majority of scholars. However, some scholars did not stipulate seeking forgiveness; rather, they deemed it sufficient to supplicate for the wronged person, in order to avoid the mischief that often results from seeking forgiveness. This latter view is the stronger one.
