Is it permissible for a patient with multiple sclerosis who is being treated with Betaseron injections, and whose doctor has asked him to break his fast and drink plenty of water after taking the injection, to break his fast in Ramadan?

Non-nutritious injections do not break a fasting person's fast. As for injections that necessitate drinking water or consuming food afterward, if it is possible to delay them until after breaking the fast without harm or hardship, then this is obligatory. However, if delaying them would harm the patient, then he must break his fast. If delaying them would not cause harm but would cause hardship, then it is recommended for him to break his fast, and it is disliked for him to fast. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymemeen mentioned that if a sick person is not affected by fasting, it is not permissible for him to break his fast. If fasting causes him hardship but does not harm him, it is disliked for him to fast, and it is recommended for him to break his fast. However, if fasting causes him hardship and harms him, then fasting is forbidden for him.
