What is the ruling on one who rinses his mouth with water for the purpose of cooling and then expels it, and is he permitted to swallow his saliva afterwards?

Scholars have differed on the ruling of rinsing the mouth (madhmadha) to alleviate thirst. Some have deemed it disliked, while others have permitted it without dislike. Ibn Qudamah explicitly stated the disliking of madhmadha done frivolously or for thirst, whereas the Malikis permitted it for thirst and similar reasons, disliking it for any reason that does not necessitate it. As for swallowing the saliva after madhmadha and expelling the water, there is no harm in it if the taste of the water has gone and the saliva has become pure.
