Ibn Hibban's Kitab Al-Thiqat (The Book of Trustworthy Narrators) is an important reference in the science of al-jarh wa al-ta'dil (discrediting and accrediting narrators). However, some scholars, including Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, criticized him for deeming unknown narrators trustworthy, based on the principle that the default assumption for a Muslim is uprightness ('adalah).
