How is the eclipse prayer performed?

The description of the Eclipse Prayer is two rak'ahs (units of prayer). It begins with the takbir (pronouncement of "Allahu Akbar"), followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a long surah (chapter), such as Al-Baqarah. Then, a long ruku' (bowing) is performed, followed by rising and standing upright. After this, Surah Al-Fatihah and a surah shorter than the first (such as Al 'Imran) are recited, followed by a ruku' shorter than the first, then rising and standing upright. Finally, two long prostrations (sujud) are performed. This sequence is repeated in the second rak'ah with shorter surahs recited each time. Thus, each rak'ah consists of two standing postures, two recitations, two bowings, and two prostrations. If it is prayed like a voluntary prayer, or with six bowings, it is valid, as all of these methods have been reported in the Sunnah. The evidence for this is what 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated concerning the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayer during a solar eclipse.
