1 min readAlso available in العربية

Hides are of four types: The hide of a human is pure, and it is not permissible to use it due to its sanctity. The hide of an animal ritually slaughtered is pure, and it is permissible to use it. The hide of a dead animal, whether it is from an animal that can be ritually slaughtered or not, is impure and is not purified except by tanning. The hide of a dog and a pig, and whatever is born from them, is impure, and it is not permissible to use it, whether alive or dead. Tanning does not purify it according to one opinion, but the apparent meaning of the two aforementioned general hadiths is that they are purified by tanning.
