Is zakat due on investment certificates in banks, or only on their profits?

is obligatory on the principal and its profits if the investment is in a bank that conducts Islamic transactions. However, if the investment is in a usurious bank, one must repent and dispose of the usurious profits by giving them to the poor and needy. Zakat is only due on the lawful principal.
