What is the ruling regarding a man whose soul spoke to him of something that leads to disbelief? Do we excommunicate him?
"A person is not held accountable, according to Sharia, for self-talk, the whispers of Satan, and thoughts that pass through the heart, as long as they do not vocalize them or act upon them. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: 'Indeed, Allah has pardoned for my nation what they inwardly converse about, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it.' If this self-talk relates to creed and faith, and the self dislikes and rejects it, then this is clear faith. A Muslim should قطع (cut off) these whispers and not dwell on them."
