Is it permissible for a father to be proud of his son for his academic excellence or fame?

It is not permissible to boast about one's son if it is accompanied by arrogance and superiority over people, because Allah does not love any arrogant boaster, and Allah has revealed the importance of humility. As for mentioning and thanking Allah for His blessings, such as having a righteous or successful child, this is permissible as a way of acknowledging Allah's favors, not as a means of boasting or feeling superior, as stated in His Almighty saying: "But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it]." This reporting must be free from ostentation.
