False testimony and a false oath before a judge are among the greatest sins. The questioner must repent and seek forgiveness. Scholars have differed concerning the expiation for an immersive oath ( ghamus). Most of them believe that it has no expiation other than repentance and seeking forgiveness, while the Shafi'is hold that the known expiation for an oath is obligatory, along with repentance.
