What is the ruling on a mentally ill person touching and reading the Mus'haf, despite their family's attempts to prevent them and their insistence on doing so?

If a person is aware and able to maintain his purity and avoid impurities, then there is no objection to allowing him to recite the Qur’an after purification, as long as he does not engage in tampering or disrespect. Perhaps Allah will heal him through the blessing of the Qur’an, which is a healing and mercy for the believers and a cure for what is in the breasts. However, if he is completely devoid of reason or shows disrespect towards the Qur’an, then it is not permissible to allow him access to it. Rather, he must be kept away from it and from every book that is respected in Islamic law.
