What is the intention required for performing ghusl after menstruation, seminal discharge, or both?

The intention for ghusl (ritual bathing) after menstruation or Janabah (state of ritual impurity requiring ghusl) is: the intention to remove the major ritual impurity (al-hadath al-akbar), or the intention to perform what Allah has obligated of ghusl, or to make permissible what was forbidden by menstruation and Janabah, such as prayer and touching the Mus'haf (Qur'an).
