Scholars have differed regarding the permissibility of Salat al-Shukr (prayer of gratitude), and the prevailing is that it is not permissible.
Therefore, if someone swore to perform Salat al-Shukr, and then it became clear to him that it is not permissible, he must offer expiation for breaking an oath.
However, according to the opinion that holds it permissible, he should perform what he swore to do.
