How can I deal with my husband who treats me with violence and contempt and does not accept that I have an opinion, even though I want my marital life to succeed for the sake of my daughters?
A dignified marital life is based on understanding and overlooking minor faults, given the great importance of marriage. Many marital disputes arise from ignorance of the rulings of the Sharia. The husband must fear Allah concerning his family, overlook small matters, and focus on good qualities. If he cannot bear ill manners, he should resort to admonition, advice, and abandoning the marital bed, and a light, non-bruising strike in extreme cases, based on the verse: {As for those [wives] from whom you fear defiance, admonish them, forsake them in beds, and strike them. But if they obey you, seek no way against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted, All-Great.} The husband should also seek his wife's opinion, for correctness might be with her. The wife should be patient, avoid what provokes her husband, and choose an appropriate time to discuss matters with him. The husband must not be absent from his wife for more than six months except with her permission. Both spouses must beware of contemplating separation, due to the destruction it brings to the future of their children.
