The answer

It is permissible to deposit money in a usurious bank out of necessity—such as fear of theft—if no Islamic banks are available. It is stipulated that the deposit should be in a current account as much as possible; if that is not feasible, then in a savings account. The interest accrued from this is not permissible to benefit from, and it must be used for general Muslim welfare with the intention of divesting oneself of it.
