What is the ruling on the zakat of the remaining amount, if the original amount was not subjected to zakat for three years?
A person who has not paid on his wealth during the past three years must do two things: First, repent to Allah, because delaying zakat beyond its due time is unlawful (). Second, immediately pay zakat for the past three years. If cash and trade goods reach the by themselves or when combined with other cash or trade goods, and a full year (hawl) has passed over them, then zakat becomes obligatory on them. The nisab for cash and trade goods is the equivalent of 596 grams of silver or 85 grams of gold. The obligatory zakat on cash is one-quarter of one-tenth, which is 2.5%. The method for calculating zakat is to assess the amount after the completion of each hawl and then pay one-quarter of one-tenth of it.
