Is it permissible to remove the hijab out of necessity?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The hijab is an obligation that may not be abandoned except in cases of inability or compelling necessity, as Allah the Almighty says: "unless you are compelled to it." Necessity is defined as a person reaching a point where, if they do not commit the forbidden act, they will perish or be close to perishing, or will suffer hardship that is difficult to bear. If a Muslim woman reaches this point, it is permissible for her to remove the hijab to the extent of that necessity.
